The Externship in Emotionally Focused Therapy is a 4-day intensive training in the theory, interventions, and practice of EFT with couples. In addition to learning how attachment theory informs our understanding of couple distress, you will learn the steps and techniques to guide couples from conflict and disengagement to lasting connection based on strong, secure bonds. This training gives you the skills needed to immediately implement EFT in your couple’s work. Our goal is nothing less than to transform the way you work with couples.
EFT Externships and Core Skills training is designed for mental health professionals and those actively working towards degrees in mental health fields. All registrants are required to state their professional designation. CEU’s are available for Social Workers, Counselors, Psychologists, and Marriage & Family Therapists. Earn 28 CEU’s in four days. CEU’s are available from AIU for an additional $35.
This is an official ICEEFT Endorsed EFT training. The Externship is the first step toward becoming a Certified EFT Therapist and being listed on the ICEEFT website, where clients go to find trained EFT therapists. In this Externship, you will learn how to:
Build strong therapeutic alliances
Understand distress and repair in relationships from an emotional and attachment perspective
Help couples access the vulnerable emotions that underlie their repetitive destructive cycles
Help couples shape new patterns of engagement
This training is recommended for all professionals who counsel couples, including marriage and family therapists, social workers, psychologists, licensed mental health counselors, psychiatrists and students preparing for these professions. Participants are strongly encouraged to prepare by reading Creating Connection: The Practice of Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (2004) by Dr. Sue Johnson.
