From Flooding to Calm: Teaching Couples the Biology of Emotional Regulation Apr 10th, 2026
$79.95
Have you ever watched a couple go from calm conversation to emotional chaos in seconds — as if something in their brains suddenly flipped? That “something” is real. It’s called emotional flooding, and it’s one of the most critical physiological barriers to connection in relationships.
From Flooding to Calm is a powerful 90-minute live training that takes couples and clinicians inside the body’s stress system — revealing why we lose emotional control in moments of conflict and what neuroscience teaches us about getting it back.
EXCLUSIVE National Marriage Seminars and CoupleStrong hosted clinical training.

Overview
Have you ever watched a couple go from calm conversation to emotional chaos in seconds — as if something in their brains suddenly flipped? That “something” is real. It’s called emotional flooding, and it’s one of the most critical physiological barriers to connection in relationships.
From Flooding to Calm is a powerful 90-minute live training that takes couples and clinicians inside the body’s stress system — revealing why we lose emotional control in moments of conflict and what neuroscience teaches us about getting it back.
Led by Chris Cambas, MA, LMFT, Certified Gottman Therapist and founder of CoupleStrong, this session explores the brain-body connection that governs emotional regulation, helping participants learn how to recognize flooding, stop escalation, and restore calm connection faster.
Whether you’re a couple who keeps “hitting the wall” during conflict or a therapist looking for practical tools to help clients de-escalate, this training offers actionable strategies that bring the nervous system — and the relationship — back into balance.
What You’ll Learn
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Define emotional flooding and describe its neurobiological basis in the limbic system and autonomic nervous system.
- Identify physiological signs of flooding — racing heart, tunnel vision, muscle tension, defensiveness, or emotional shutdown.
- Understand the role of the amygdala, prefrontal cortex, and vagus nerve in emotional regulation and interpersonal safety.
- Teach couples to recognize early warning signs before conflict escalates beyond repair.
- Apply evidence-based regulation techniques such as grounding, breathwork, cognitive reframing, and relational pause routines.
- Implement step-by-step de-escalation protocols couples can use in-session or at home to restore calm.
- Integrate neuroscience-informed interventions into clinical or coaching settings for lasting change.
Who This Webinar Is For
This webinar is designed for both couples and professionals who want to master the art and biology of staying calm under emotional pressure.
For Couples
- You feel stuck in conflict cycles that escalate quickly.
- You want to understand why you or your partner “shut down” or “explode” during arguments.
- You’re ready to learn practical, body-based tools to calm down, connect, and communicate effectively.
For Therapists, Coaches, and Clinicians
- You’re seeking to integrate neuroscience and physiology into couples work.
- You want tools for helping clients self-regulate and co-regulate during intense sessions.
- You work with trauma, attachment injuries, or emotionally reactive couples and need a grounded biological framework.
Applicable for LMFT, LMHC, LPC, LCSW, Psychologists, and Certified Coaches.
Why This Webinar Matters
Emotional flooding is one of the most common — and most misunderstood — causes of relational breakdown. When partners become physiologically overwhelmed, empathy and logic shut down. They stop hearing, stop connecting, and start defending.
But here’s the good news: once couples understand the biology behind their reactions, they can learn to pause, breathe, and reconnect before damage is done.
You’ll walk away with:
- Tools for recognizing early physiological cues of distress.
- Scripts and techniques for de-escalation in real time.
- Practices to restore emotional safety and presence.
This isn’t just about “calming down.” It’s about rewiring the nervous system for connection — so couples can stop surviving conflict and start thriving through it.
