AN EFT MASTER CLASS WITH
George Faller, LMFT
The New York Times and Time magazine herald EFT as “the couples therapy with the highest rate of success!” Over the past 30 years, no approach to couples’ therapy has received wider recognition for its effectiveness than Emotionally Focused Therapy. EFT is beautiful in its simplicity and yet most of us quickly learn it’s harder to do than it looks. Our optimism leaving an externship can slowly dissipate as we get stuck with difficult couples. Renew your confidence by getting more detailed help in the areas where you lose focus and get lost in reactivity and mis-attunement. Go deeper with George as he breaks down the moment-to-moment decisions that inform EFT so you can immediately incorporate his powerful, proven techniques into your own work.
Day 1: Going into the Fire with Highly Escalated Pursuers/Couples
Do escalated couples make you want to quit being a therapist? Join us as we explore those moments of greatest difficulty for couples, from still-face to high reactivity to despair and rage. Learn how to keep your focus and go deeper in the face of reactivity. We’ll explore, demonstrate, practice and integrate in an interactive, experiential way.
Through a combination of lecture, videotape, and exercises, participants will learn to identify the basic stages and steps of Emotionally Focused Therapy and to help couples recognize and de-escalate problematic cycles of interaction.
Participants will also learn to help couples create or restore the emotional bond between them once the negative cycle, and the attachment needs that drive it, has been understood.
Day 2: EFT/Attachment Work with Military/Police/Firefighters, first line responders with High Emotional Avoidance (Open to non-EFT therapists)
Shut down withdrawers often bring out the worst in therapists. Our attempts at getting withdrawers to re-engage often only leads to more silence and the withdrawers making their walls thicker. Learn skills to match the effect of withdrawers and help them put words to their inner experience, shifting their focus from performance to introspection.
Through demonstration, videotape, and practice, therapists will learn how to openly engage withdrawers from a place of curiosity instead of it feeling like an inquisition. Integrating concepts from George’s book Sacred Stress, participants will learn how to lean into the withdrawer’s blocks to engagement and discover that blocks can be transformed into bridges.
